Tallinn, Estonia. Not a place I knew much about. It's an ancient city on the Baltic Sea, dominated by Crusaders, Swedes, Germans, and Soviets in turn. At last they got their freedom in the early nineties and joined the EU half a dozen years ago. It is amazing what they have accomplished in such a short time. Tonight we had dinner in the Hell Hunt Pub, which claims to be the first pub open in Tallinn. That was 1993. We ate some yummy pub grub and watched the Canadians beat the Danes in hockey on a big screen on the wall. Hockey is THE sport in this part of the world. They say Hell Hunt means gentle wolf.
We walked around the old town today following Rick Steves walking tour from my book. We saw medieval towers and walls,
Cobbled streets,
And really old wooden buildings.
This clock is said to be from the 1600s.
We went in the Russian Orthodox Church. Very ornate!
Our apartment is right here in old town but is very modern. It has a dishwasher and a sauna, but sadly, no clothes washer which is what we really love! The curtains are too thin however, because the sun rises really early, like 4 am, and it doesn't get fully dark until nearly 11 pm. Thank goodness for the sleep mask! It is also pretty chilly here, but sunny today, so it was nice!
